Two AISD Educators Receive Honors

Two Abilene ISD educators are being honored in the Region 14 Education Service Center area for their outstanding service to their students and professional organizations. Debra Stewart, principal at Ortiz Elementary, has been chosen as the Region 14 TEPSAN of the Year from the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association. Jennifer Seekins, guidance counselor at Cooper High School, has been named the Region 14 ESC High School Counselor of the Year. Events, Exhibitions Highlight Youth Art Month

March is National Youth Art Month, and students from Abilene ISD and other area schools are gearing up with exhibits and events in the coming weeks. Youth Art Month will be celebrated throughout March at The Grace Museum. More than 1,000 pieces of art created by K-12 students from Abilene ISD and area schools will be exhibited at The Grace through March 21. The student artwork represents selections from 35 art instructors in Abilene and the area. Last year, more than 1,700 visitors attended the opening of the exhibit. Student Awards Handed Out in Jazz Band, Art

7 AISD Musicians Win Spots on All-Region Jazz Band Abilene High qualified four musicians while Cooper High added three more to the 2019 Texas Music Educators Association Region 6 All-Region Jazz Band. Caleb Queen and Coleman Patterson on sax, Brian Lester on trombone and Geanna Rodriguez on bass trombone were the all-region selections from AHS. Cooper’s Zachry Valentine made it for trumpet, Jacob Moore on trombone and Ricky Hinojosa on drums.
